Dr. Victor Moshchalkov visited HMFL

  At the invitation of High Magnetic Field Laboratory, CAS, Dr. Victor Moshchalkov from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, visited HMFL on April 28th. Dr. Victor presented a seminar entitled “New Trends in Nanoscale Superconductivity”. After the seminar, Dr. KUANG Guangli, The director of HMFL, gave the guests a general introduction about HMFL, the current research progresses and development plan for the future. Dr. Moshchalkov highly appreciated the progresses of HMFL, and hoped that both sides can carry out joint research in related fields.

  

  Prof. V.V. Moshchalkov is internationally recognized for his pioneering work on confinement and quantization phenomena in nanostructured superconductors, magnets and semiconductors. His seminal work on nanostructured superconductors provides the basic principles for enhancing the superconducting critical current up to the theoretical limit and for developing a variety of novel fluxonics devices and superconducting elements for quantum computing. He has published over 760 publications with more than 8800 citations. The well recognized international impact of Prof. Moshchalkov’s scientific research is clearly reflected in his high international reputation and standing: coordinator of a very successful EU Project NANOMAT which formed the basis for launching the EU Network of Excellence SANDiE, chairman of the ESF Programme “Vortex Matter in Superconductors-VORTEX” from 1999 to 2004, co-chairman of the Global Research Networking Core-to-Core Programme (Japan-EU-USA, “Nanoscience and Engineering in Superconductivity-NES”), as well as chairman of the new ESF Programme (“Nanoscience and Engineering in Superconductivity-NES”, with more than 60 teams from 15 European countries). He is a fellow of the American Physical Society, chairman of the Section "Low Temperature Physics" (1992 – 1998) of the European Physical Society, co-editor of “Europhysics Letters” in 1999-2003, and currently the editor of “Physica C” and co-editor of “Superconductor Science and Technology”.
