In the support of “Overseas Talent into the Academy” activity, Dr. Bin Yuan from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio was invited to visit the High Magnetic Field Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CHMFL) on September 8th, 2015.
During his visit, Dr. Yuan gave a presentation entitled “Something Special about the Cinderella In the Estrogen Receptor Family”. He introduced his latest discovery of tyrosine modification in Estrogen receptor ER , the phosphorylation of which is able to inhibit breast cancer growth. He also found that c-ABL tyrosine kinase and EYA2 phosphatase could regulate the phosphorylation status of Y36. Moreover, in human breast cancer samples, he found that phosphorylated Y36-specific ER was strongly associated with patients’ survival. In summary, Dr. Yuan’s research indicates that Y36 phosphorylation in ER is a potential prognostic factor and molecular target for breast cancer therapy. His presentation was very interesting and aroused further discussion with audiences including Prof. LIN Wenchu, Prof. ZHANG Xin, Prof. LIU Jing, Prof. HAN Wei and other researchers.
After his lecture, Dr. Yuan had a round-table talk with Prof. WANG Junfeng , the director of MR life science division, Prof. Zhang Xin and Prof. LIU Jing. They discussed recent academic achievements and current research projects in CHMFL. Finally, Dr. Yuan had an onsite tour of the steady high magnetic field facility and a few biomedical laboratories.
“Overseas Talent into the Academy” activity aims at establishing a communication bridge with overseas talents and promoting national and CAS’s talent policies through the invitation of foreign outstanding scientists to visit the CAS.
