Invited by Prof. Kai Zhong, Professor Oliver Speck of University of Magdeburg visited the High Magnetic Field Laboratory, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CHMFL) from June 14th to 19th, 2015. During his visit, Prof. Speck discussed with Prof. Zhong about topics of mutual interest in MRI and agreed to further strengthen the ongoing collaborations between Magdeburg and Hefei, especially in new high field MRI methodology development.

On June 17th, Prof. Speck gave a presentation entitled “Toward Microstructural Imaging of the Human Brain”. He discussed recent advances in ultra-high resolution structural imaging, functional imaging and diffusion tensor imaging in the human brain at 7 T in Magdeburg. The talk was well received by audiences from CHMFL and USTC, for whom the motion artifact correction technique in MRI draw their particular attention.

Prof. Speck is the former president of the European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ESMRM). He is the director of Biomedical Magnetic Resonance at University of Magdeburg, Germany, which houses the first 7T whole body human MRI scanner in Europe.
